Innovative power-to-liquid solution from research and practice
A joint development project of KIB Engineering & Consulting GmbH and Munich University of Applied Sciences HM
Objective:
Development of a decentralized plant for the production of methanol from residual loads (= surplus electricity from renewable energy sources) using anthropogenic CO2.
The systems are designed as containers so that they can be easily installed in the vicinity of wind power, photovoltaic systems or CO2 sources.
The product methanol can be used as an energy storage/fuel or as a reactant for many industrial applications.
CO2 is bound for as long as possible or at least not emitted.
Challenge:
Decentralized compact design – container construction – installation directly at wind farms, photovoltaic systems or green CO2 sources.
Scalable, modular design
Fast response times, availability whenever residual loads (= surplus electricity from renewable sources) are available.
High efficiency and heat integration
Product purity: High methanol purity after the reactor, so that complex purification can be omitted.

Our focus in research & development
Simulation of process engineering processes
We use state-of-the-art simulation methods to analyze and optimize complex process engineering processes. Our simulations help to increase the efficiency of production plants, save energy and reduce operating costs. We rely on precise mathematical models that reproduce real conditions as accurately as possible.
